What Is
Chosen
Creatures?
Right Now
Currently, Chosen Creatures is focused on aggregating and amplifying queer events happening in Savannah, Georgia. If you are throwing an event for queer people or are queer and doing something cool, we want to know about it!
Long Term
The ultimate vision is to create a membership program that is part local discount and loyalty program, part social club. The goal is to build a network of support that fosters community, keeps more money inside local queer and queer-friendly spaces, and encourages the freedom and audacity to try new ideas.
The club will be membership-based and we are still working out what that looks like so that membership can remain accessible.
Origin Story
Hi, I'm Carla Sparks, the one with the big glasses, the big ideas, and the stupid little haircut. When I moved to Savannah I was struck by how there are all the elements for a thriving queer scene here, but with a lack of designated spaces, there isn't a sense of community. It was also hard to track down where I could reliably go to be around other queer people. There is so much going on here—such a vibrant, creative, and entrepreneurial energy—that I know we could really make exciting things happen if we work together. Chosen Creatures is now in a phase of "conscious construction" as we slowly scale and build momentum, bringing in individuals and businesses as collaborators through events and pop-ups.

FAQ: Frequently Anticipated Questions
Why membership?
There are many benefits to a membership structure! One is that it enables us to function as a non-profit. The 501(c)(7) structure ensures that all "member income" (dues, fees, and money spent at the club by members) goes directly back into supporting the community we are building together. Membership helps increase accountability across the board, consistency (which helps grow community), a sense of ownership, and safety.
Do I have to be gay to join?
No, but it sure helps! But seriously, Chosen Creatures is "ally-friendly," and your queerness will never be called into question at a Chosen Creatures event or space. When we keep the idea of queerness confined to sexuality and gender, we limit ourselves as a community and relegate entire parts of our wholeness and identity to the background. We are committed to a holistic approach that sees queerness as a way of being — doing things outside the norm and dismantling systems of oppression that harm the human spirit.
Why "Chosen Creatures"?
It sounds religious but isn't. As queer people, we are chosen by the universe (or whatever you want to call it) to be extraordinary and shine our unique light in a world that can be dark and joyless. We choose ourselves, we choose our families, and we have been called to joy. And "creatures" because we are all creatures at the end of the day—magnificent creatures, creatures of the night, little trolls and goblins, ogres, wizards, witches, and unicorns.
